Obituary Afton Stark Former Coffeyville resident Afton Louise Stark died Wednesday May 3, 2006 in Flatwoods, Kentucky. She was 87. She was born December 29, 1918 in Salt Lake City, Utah to Hyrum and Jean Reich Kilburn. She attended schools and graduated from high school in Salt Lake City. She married Carl Stark in 1946.They were married in Salt Lake City. They moved to Seattle, Washington where Mr. Stark rejoined the United States Air Force. His many assignments took them to areas including Scotland, Germany and stateside to Kansas, Nebraska, California and Ohio. He retired in 1972 and they returned to Coffeyville. Mr. and Mrs. Stark were both members of the VFW. Mrs. Stark was a member of the 3rd. District Ladies Auxillary where she served as president from 1990-91. She was also a member of the American Legion where she served as past President from 2000-2001. She was very active in volunteer work for the community. In 1968 she was selected as 4th. Air Force Family Affairs volunteer of the year. She devoted most of her time to her service clubs and volunteer work. She was also a member of the Eagles Lodge 2459. Survivors include a son, Robert and Sally Stark of Castle Rock, Colorado; son Gregory and Toshimi Stark of Ashland, Kentucky; daughter Jean and Phil Burt of Texas. There are 8 grandchildren and several great-grandchildren. She was preceded in death by her parents, her husband Carl on December 26, 1990, daughter Arlene, a brother Louie and a sister Frances. Funeral services will be held at 2:00 pm on Wednesday, May 10, 2006 in the Penwell-Gabel, Ford-Wulf-Bruns Chapel in Coffeyville. Jeff Hogge will officiate and burial will follow in the Fairview Cemetery. Casket Bearers will be from the American Legion Post 20, Bob Armstrong, Jack Allen and Don Clayton and from the VFW Post 20, Glenn Barlow, Gordon LaForte and Harold Coons. The family will greet friends on Tuesday evening from 6 pm until 9 pm at the funeral home. Memorials may be made to the Alzheimers Disease, Kansas State Assn. Sunflower Chapter 347 S.
