Former Coffeyville resident, Alex Jonathon Eli, 23, of Shawnee, Kan., died Friday, March 11, 2011. Alex was born Feb. 10, 1988, in Chanute to John and Diane Powell Eli. He grew up in Coffeyville where he attended Garfield Elementary School and McKinley Middle School. After moving to Shawnee, he graduated from Mill Valley High School. Alex had worked for IHOP in Kansas City and Denver since graduation. He enjoyed spending time with family and friends and, like his brother, Andrew, loved attending concerts. He had a passion for music, the outdoors, and most of all, for his dog, Sun. Alex is survived by his father of Ft. Lauderdale, Fla his mother, Diane EliCaldwell, and stepfather, Bob Caldwell of Shawnee a sister, Abbigail of Kansas City, Mo. a stepsister, Krystan Koehn and husband, Bruce, one nephew, Karter Koehn, all of Coffeyville a stepbrother, Max Caldwell of Pittsburg maternal grandfather, Dick Powell of Olathe paternal grandparents, Stan and Carol Eli of Coffeyville aunts, Susan Kerns and husband, J.D., of Shawnee, and Kak EliSchneider and husband, Paul Schneider, of Topeka cousins, MacKenzie and Jordan Kerns of Lawrence Eli and Ty Schneider of Topeka and many other loving family members and friends. He was preceded in death by his brother, Andrew maternal grandmother, Norma Powell uncle, Jim Eli and paternal greatgrandparents, Estel and Cretta Barber. Memorial services will be held at 3 p.m. Wednesday in Shawnee Mission Park followed by a service in Coffeyville at 11 a.m. Friday at Cedar Bluff Camp. Remembrances are suggested to the Alex Eli Memorial Fund at Community State Bank in Coffeyville or the Bank of Blue Valley, 119th amp Metcalf, Overland Park, KS 66213.
