Obituary Alice Mabel Horning Baker Coffeyville resident Alice Mabel Horning Baker died Wednesday morning, October 4, 2006 at Windsor Place, where she has been a resident for many years. She was 101. Mabel was given a key to the city on her 100th birthday last year. Alice Mabel Horning Baker born March 26, 1905 in the city of Toronto, Ontario Province, Canada. She came to Stillwater Oklahoma, with her family in 1920 when she was 15. She graduated High School in Fairfax, Oklahoma in 1923. She attended Oklahoma State University. She graduated in 1928. She taught school for 10 years and met her husband Walter Baker while visiting a friend in Coffeyville. She worked at H.W.Reads Department Store and J. C. Penney39;s. She attended the First United Methodist Church where she was an active member of the Ladies Auxillary and the choir. She was a 20 year volunteer for the local Meals and Wheels program where she drove the van. She is survived by a step son Earl Baker, a sister Edith Timmons, a niece Jane Mackey, all residents in Texas; her namesake niece Alice Harris in Alabama; 2 nephews, Phil Horning of Oklahoma City, OK. and James O. Horning of Houston TX. and 4 grandchildren. Mabel was preceded in death by her husband Walter Baker, a step daughter Dorothy, both of her parents, and two brothers, J. O Horning and Frank Horning. Funeral services will be held at 2:00 PM Monday, October 9, 2006 in the Penwell-Gabel Ford-Wulf-Bruns Funeral Home Chapel. Rev. John Collins will officiate and burial will follow in the Fairview Cemetery. Friends may call at the Penwell-Gabel Ford-Wulf Bruns Chapel on Sunday from 1:00 PM until 9:00 PM to sign the guest register. Memorials may be made to the Coffeyville Meals on Wheels program or the First United Methodist Church of Coffeyville. These may be left with the funeral home.
