Alice Marie Barnhart, 71, Coffeyville, Kansas, died Saturday, August 27, 2011 at Coffeyville Regional Medical Center. Alice was born June 18, 1940 in her grandmothers home in Neosho County, Kansas to Russell Dean Aikins, Sr. and Mildred Lorene Maxwell Aikins. She grew up around Erie, Kansas and received her education in the local schools. She married Howard Barnhart on August 4, 1956 at Coffeyvilles First Baptist Church. The couple lived on Table Rock Lake in Missouri from 19972003, but otherwise made the Coffeyville area their home. Alice was a member of the First Baptist Church and was an Avon Representative for almost 20 years. She worked as achecker from Wards Redbud Grocery, Krogers, Quick Stop and Elmores Grocery Store. Alice also baby sat in herspare time as a homemaker. She enjoyed crafting with beads, crocheting and quilting and was an avid reader, especially fond of the authors, Nora Roberts, Judith Miller, Mary Higgins Clark and Debbie Macomber. Alice was a loving grandmother to her grandchildren and greatgrandchildren. Survivors include her husband, Howard of the home her father, Russell Dean Aikins, Sr. of Chanute, Kansas a daughter, Kathleen Ledbetter of Coffeyville one daughterinlaw, Vicki Barnhart of Osage City, Kansas two brothers, Russell Dean Aikins, Jr. and his wife, Sandra of Plano, Texas and David Aikins and his wife, Linda of Lawrence, Kansas one sister, Sharon Paillett and her husband, Bobby of Topeka, Kansas four grandchildren and two greatgrandchildren. She was preceded in death by her mother, by a son, Joseph Dean Barnhart on September 2, 1992 and soninlaw, James Ledbetter on October 24, 2010. A memorial service will be held 11:00 a.m., Saturday, September 3, 2011 at Coffeyvilles First Baptist Church with Rev. Randall Terrell officiating. The family suggests memorial contributions can be made to the American Diabetes Association. These may be left with the funeral home. Friends may call on Friday, September 2, 2011 from 9:00 a.m. until 5:00 p.m. at PenwellGabel FordWulfBruns Chapel to sign the guest register.
