Allen C. Tomes, 90, of South Coffeyville, Oklahoma passed away Saturday, June 16, 2012 in South Coffeyville, Oklahoma. Allen was born on September 1, 1921 to Allen C. and Mary M. Tomes. He grew up south east of Lenapah, Oklahoma and attended school in Lenapah. He served in the United States Military during World War II in the Marine Corps. He served for five years until he was honorably discharged. He was united in marriage on January 24, 1945 to Helen M. Hollmann at the old St. Pauls Lutheran Church in Coffeyville, Kansas. The couple made their home in South Coffeyville, Oklahoma. He was an active member at St. Pauls Lutheran Church in Coffeyville. He owned and operated the Deluxe Dry Cleaners for twenty five years with his wife. Later he helped his daughter, Susan and soninlaw Don for eight years at their restaurantBetter N Nothin in South Coffeyville. He loved to garden and visiting with friends and family. He had time to stop and talk to anyone he didnt know a stranger and was referred to by many asGrandpa. Surviving to honor his memory are his daughters, Nancy Gene Stanford of Edmond, OK, Susan Don Lakey of South Coffeyville, OK son, Daniel Teri Tomes of Edmond, OK grandchildren, Tiffini Johnston, Tara Sink, Amanda Johnston, Carrie Tomes, Mitchell Lakey, Jarrod Lakey nine greatgrandchildren. He was preceded in death by his parents, Allen and Mary loving wife, Helen brother, Virgil Tomes and sister, Mildred Zimmerman. A memorial service will be held Friday, July 6, 2012 at10:00 a.m. at the St. Pauls Lutheran Church in Coffeyville. Reverend Richard Peckman will officiate. A private family inurnment will follow at a later date. Friends may call on Thursday July 5, 2012 from 9:00 a.m. until 5:00 p.m. to sign the guest register at PenwellGabel FordWulfBruns Chapel in Coffeyville. The family suggests memorial contributions can be made to St. Pauls Lutheran Church in Coffeyville these may be left with the funeral home.
