Coffeyville Resident Alvan L. Patterson entered into eternal rest on Monday December 24, 2007 in Coffeyville, Kansas. He was 89. Alvan was born June 11, 1918 in Cherryvale, Kansas to Grover C. and Dora B. Houdashelt Patterson. After his schooling, he entered into the United States Marine Corps. He also worked at the Oregon Ship Yard, Continental Can Company, Leavenworth Steel and retired in 1980 from Parmac, Inc. He married Hazel Ruth Cook on December 12, 1936 and they later
orced. He married Carole Steeby on May 3, 1958. The couple made their home in Coffeyville, and she survives. Alvan was a member of the Keystone Lodge 102, Coffeyville Chapter RAM 89 Past High Priest, Lochinvar Commanderly 52 Past Commander, Independence Council 15, Fort Scott Consistery, Mirza Temple Shrine, Coffeyville Order of Eastern Star 112, Bartlesville Bethel White Shrine of Jersualem, Past Watchman of Shepherds and a member of the First Baptist Church. He is survived by a son, Ralph Shirley Patterson of Pittsburg, Kansas; 5 daughters, Pauline Earl McKinney of Bakersfield, California; Janet Paul Myers of Altoona, Kansas; Shirley Robert Johnson of Strong, Arkansas; Louva Steve Glidewell of Quapaw, Oklahoma; and April Melvin Stewart of Spring, Texas; a brother, Harold Thelma Patterson of Coffeyville; 13 grandchildren and several great-grandchildren. Alvan was also survived by a sister, Velda P. Allen, of Coffeyville, who passed away on December 26, 2007. He was preceded in death by his parents, 2 brothers, Lloyd Patterson and Melvin Patterson, a sister Goldie McDowell and a great-grandchild, Hunter Rigel. Funeral services will be held at 10:00 am Friday, December 28, 2007 in the Penwell-Gabel Ford-Wulf-Bruns Funeral Home Chapel and Dr. Wayne Norton will officiate. Burial will follow at Penwell-Gabels Restlawn Memorial Park Cemetery. Friends may call on Thursday from 9 am until 9 pm at the funeral home to sign the guest register. The family will receive friends on Thursday evening from 6-8 pm at the funeral home.
