Betty Jo Buckner, age 89, of Coffeyville, Kansas died Sunday, October 28, 2012 at the Wesley Medical Center in Wichita, Kansas.
Memorial Services will be held at 10:00 a.m. Friday, November 2, 2012 at the FordWulfBruns Chapel in Coffeyville, Kansas. Celebration of Life Services will be held at 1:00 p.m., Saturday, November 3, 2012 at the Prairie Chapel in Preston, Missouri. Burial will follow in the Payne Cemetery east of Bolivar, Missouri under the direction of the FordWulfBruns Chapel in Coffeyville, Kansas.
Betty Jo Buckner was born April 26, 1923 in Hickory County, Missouri to Walter and Pearl Stokes Fisher. She attended the Royal Country School near her home, graduated from the Flemington High School in Flemington, Missouri and received her Bachelor Degree in Education from Southwest Teachers College in Springfield, Missouri currently Southwest State University. Betty also completed her masters degree at the University of Missouri in Columbia.
Betty taught school in Dallas County, Missouri before teaching in California. She returned to Missouri where she taught in St. Louis.
On January 29, 1952 Betty married Milton Buckner in Harrison, Arkansas. Following their marriage the couple lived in Kansas City. The couple moved to Coffeyville in 1955 where Mr. Buckner was employed by the City of Coffeyville as Superintendent of the Power Plant. After 12 years the family moved to Victoria, Texas where Mr. Buckner supervised their power plant and Betty taught. In 1978 they returned to Coffeyville. Milton preceded her in death on April 2, 1990. Betty was a member of the First Southern Baptist Church in Coffeyville, Kansas.
Survivors include two sons Gary Lynn Buckner of Baytown, Texas and Rex Lee Buckner of Dearing, Kansas one brother Len Fisher of Farmington, Arkansas one sister Ursalee Fisher of Marshall, Missouri three grandchildren and one great grandchild.
