Betty J. Coffman of Coffeyville passed away Friday, March 13, 2009 at CRMC. She was 84. Betty was born June 30, 1924 in Coffeyville, Kansas to Allen and Gladys Phillips Gilbert. She attended Coffeyville schools. On November 11, 1948 she was united in marriage to Glen D. Coffman in Ft. Leavenworth, Kansas. Following his discharge from the military they made their home in Coffeyville for ten years. In 1964 they moved to Picayune, Mississippi, in 1968 they moved to St. Louis, MO until his retirement in 1985, when they returned to Coffeyville. Betty spent her time as a homemaker. She was a member of the Trinity United Methodist Church, they enjoyed sporting events and she liked to sew. She loved spending time visiting with family and friends. Surviving to honor her memory is her daughter, Pat Cotton and husband Raymond of Greenbrier, Arkansas; five grandchildren; seventeen great-grandchildren; brothers, Allen Gilbert of California, Robert Gilbert of Tulsa, OK; a sister, Deloris Bump of South Coffeyville, Oklahoma. She was preceded in death by her parents; loving husband, Glen and a sister, Joyce Chester. A Memorial Service will be held Monday, March 16, 2009 at 10:00 a.m. at the Penwell-Gabel Ford-Wulf-Bruns Chapel in Coffeyville. Dr. Wayne Norton will officiate. A private inurnment will follow at a later date. The family suggests memorial contributions can be made to the American Cancer Society these may be left with the funeral home.
