Betty Lou Furnas, 76, of South Coffeyville went to be with the Lord on November 27, 2009 at Coffeyville Regional Medical Center. She was born August 29, 1933 in Coffeyville to Anthony Tony Schiler and Norma Faye Dickey Schiler-Sanders. Betty Lou attended Garfield Elementary School and graduated from Field Kinley High School in 1951. On April 15th, 1951 she married her high school sweetheart Merle W. Furnas. The were married for 55 years. He preceded her in death on May 1, 2006. The couple lived in Coffeyville until 2002 when they built their home on Road 3 in South Coffeyville. Betty Lou was baptized on May 25, 2006 and was a member of Tyro Christian Church. She had been residing at Windsor Place nursing Facility for the past 3 years. Betty Lou enjoyed baking and decorating cakes and motorcycle trips with her husband, but most of all she was a devoted wife, mother, grandmother, sister and friend. She was also a Girlscout leader and a member of Westside Workers. Her greatest joy was spending time with her grandson Chris and making other people happy. She is survived by son Michael and wife Brenda of Dewey, Oklahoma, daughter Judith Ann of Coffeyville, grandson Christopher Adam of South Coffeyville, sister Shirley Jean and husband Paul Mahan of Miami, Oklahoma, brother-in-law Loren Lee and wife Rosetta Furnas of Hot Springs, Arkansas, Two nephews and a niece. Betty Lou was preceded in death by her husband Merle and her parents. Funeral services for Betty Lou Furnas will be held on Thursday, December 3, 2009 at 10:00a.m. at Penwell- Gabel Funeral Home in Coffeyville with Evangelist David Bycroft officiating. Entombment will follow at Fairview Cemetery. Betty Lou will lie in state at the funeral home on Wednesday, December 2, 2009 from 8:00a.m. until 8:00 p.m. Friends may greet the family from 7:00 until 8:00 p.m. The family suggests memorials to the Parkinsons Disease Foundation, which may be left at the funeral home.
