Betty Louise Groves, 91, of Coffeyville, Kansas passed away on May 11, 2015 at Windsor Place in Coffeyville.
Betty was born on September 16, 1923 in Kansas City, Missouri to Lee Wyatt and Mabel C. (McGhee) Wyatt they divorced. She was raised by her mother and step father Mabel and Dewey Jundy in Coffeyville where she received her education.
In 1941 she was married to Ivy Spears, Sr. Of that union three children were born. The couple later divorced. On January 18, 2005 she was married to her loving husband, Daniel Groves in Miami, Oklahoma. The couple made Coffeyville their home.
Betty worked very hard her whole life starting in the workforce at the age of fourteen. She was employee by numerous places in the Independence and Coffeyville area. She worked as State of Kansas Inspector with the Department of Transportation. This required her to attend the Kansas Highway Patrol Academy graduating in Topeka, Kansas. She retired after 25 years of service. Betty enjoyed playing the fiddle, she played on television in the 1950's. She loved playing at the local square dances and had her own band in Dearing, Kansas. She was also a champion archer. She was well known in the 1960's for her archery accomplishments and traveled all over Kansas and won many awards. Betty attended church at the Central Church of the Nazarene in Coffeyville.
Surviving to honor her memory is her husband, Daniel of the home; daughter, Connie Privitt and husband, Sam of South Coffeyville, Oklahoma; step children, Danny Groves and wife, Janet of Allen, Texas; Carolyn Christmas and husband, Jeff of George Town, Georgia, Anna Mae Groves of Houston, Texas; nine grandchildren; five step grandchildren; twelve great grandchildren and four step great grandchildren.
She was preceded in death by her parents; sons, Ivy L. Spears, Jr. and Billy W. Spears; by her brother, Donald Jundy and by her sisters, Norma Babb and Pat Prouty.
Per Betty's wishes a Private Family Burial will take place at a later date. The family suggests memorial contributions can be made payable to the Native American Fellowship Inc.
