Betty JoeJoy Harkins of Coffeyville passed away Sunday, September 13, 2009 at CRMC. She was 81. Joy was born June 18, 1928 in Coffeyville, Kansas to Paul and Gladys Wallace Shaw. She grew up in Coffeyville where she attended school. On November 1, 1946 she was united in marriage to Ernest Harkins in Sedan, Kansas the couple made their home in Coffeyville until 1956 when they moved to Phoenix, Arizona until returning to Coffeyville in 1961. The couple later
orced. Joy spent her time as a homemaker and also worked for the Sunny View Nursing Home. She was a member of the Trinity United Methodist Church. She was active in church in her younger years teaching Sunday School to five and six olds. She also took care of altar arrangements. Joy enjoyed square dancing; she loved cats and most of all time with her grandchildren and great-grandchildren. Surviving to honor her memory is a son, David Wayne Harkins and wife Roberta of Coffeyville, Kansas; sister, Marge Miranda of Coffeyville; grandchildren, Dianna Wells and husband Garry of Altamont, Kansas, Steven Wayne Harkins and wife Rhonda of Wichita, Kansas, Brenda Sue Maynard of Pittsburg, Kansas, Sandra Harkins of South Coffeyville, Oklahoma; and eight great- grandchildren. She is preceded in death by her parents; ex-husband, Ernest; by her sister, Billie Leach and twin sister, Beverly JeanJeanie Cranor and two brothers, Paul C and Jimmy Shaw. A memorial graveside service will be held Friday, September 18, 2009 at 2:00 p.m. at Penwell-Gabels Restlawn Memorial Park Cemetery in Coffeyville. In lieu of flowers, memorial contributions can be made to the Trinity United Methodist Church or American Cancer Society these may be left with the funeral home. Friends may call on Thursday, September 17, 2009 from 9:00 a.m. until 8:00 p.m. at Penwell-Gabel Ford-Wulf-Bruns Chapel to sign the guest register.
