Betty Ruth Hayes age 90 of Coffeyville, KS passed away on June 5, 2016 at Hillcrest Medical Center in Tulsa Oklahoma.

Betty was born July 30, 1925 to William E. and Florence A. (Gardner) Jones in Benkelman, Nebraska. She graduated from Benkelman High School then taught for three years in rural schools in Dundy County. On June 8, 1947 she married Charley H. Hayes. They moved to southeast Kansas in 1951 and to their present location east of Coffeyville in 1955. Betty drove a school bus for USD 506 for many years and retired in 1987. She was a member of the First United Methodist Church and active in many organizations including Twigbenders Sunday School class, Valeda Friendly Neighbors, Labette County 4-H and Extension, United Methodist Women, and Lioness. Betty was active in attending school and sporting events for her children, grandchildren, and great-grandchildren. For many years she and Charley were fixtures at LCHS, FKHS, and Ravens games.

Survivors include 2 daughters, Carol Foster of Sand Springs, OK and Julie Foister of Edna, KS, 2 sons, Keith and his wife Terrie of rural Coffeyville and Kent and his wife Karen of Columbia, MO; 2 sisters, Fern Hayes of Denver, CO and Evelyn Hoffmeister of Cincinnati, OH, 12 grandchildren, 22 great-grandchildren and several nieces and nephews.
Preceding her in death was her husband of 65 years, Charley; her parents, 2 brothers, Frank and Roger and a sister, Doris.

Funeral services under the direction of Ford-Wulf-Bruns Chapel will be held on Wednesday June 8, 2016 at 1:00 pm at the First United Methodist Church with Pastor Nicole Schwartz officiating. Friends are invited to sign the register and greet the family on Tuesday June 7, 2016 at Ford-Wulf-Bruns Chapel from 6:00pm to 8:00pm. The family suggests memorials to the First United Methodist Church or the Coffeyville Community College Foundation in memory of Betty and they may be left with the Chapel.
