Betty Jo Meek, 79, of Dearing, Kansas passed away peacefully and was reunited with her beloved husband Lloyd on January 28, 2014. They are now walking hand in hand in heaven.
Betty Jo was born on May 23, 1934 in Coffeyville, Kansas to Clarence A. and Bessie L. Bean Martin Sr. She attended Oakdale Grade School in rural north east Oklahoma and graduated from Wann, Oklahoma High School.
On January 12, 1952 she was united in marriage to the love of her life, Lloyd G. Meek in Oklahoma. The couple made their life long home in rural Coffeyville, Kansas. Lloyd was the Pastor of the First Southern Baptist Church of Dearing for twenty eight years until his passing in April of 1996. Betty Jo found a full time job in being a preachers wife and raising a wonderful family. Throughout the years she also worked for Parmac, a local Law Office and for Coast to Coast hardware store.
She was a member of the First Southern Baptist Church and the Womens Missionary Union. Betty Jo loved all kinds of music, she was also a talented pianist who enjoyed playing for the church for over forty years. She enjoyed fishing, gardening, making silk floral arrangements, and painting tea towels. Most of all she loved the time she spent with her family, especially the grandchildren and greatgrandchildren.
Surviving to honor her memory are her sons, Rocky Meek and wife, Debi, Martin Meek, Sr. and wife, Audrey all of Coffeyville, Kansas daughters, Linda Frazier and husband Mitch, Terri Dobson and husband, Jerry all of Dearing, Kansas grandchildren, Troy A. Meek, Russ Meek, Chris Main, Troy P. Main, Tina Romine, Anji Lushbough, Sam McQuillin, Mandy Frederiksen, Kimberly Newman, Matthew Dobson, Martin Meek, Jr., Andy Meek sisters, Thelma Carson and Dorothy Tieaskie both of Coffeyville, Kansas. She was preceded in death by her parents, Clarence and Bessie loving husband, Lloyd and a brother, Clarence Martin, Jr.
Funeral Services will be held on Friday, January 31, 2014 at 3:00 p.m. at FordWulfBruns Chapel in Coffeyville, Kansas. Ed Trottingwolf will officiate. Interment will follow at Robbins Cemetery west of Coffeyville.
Friends may call on Thursday, Janaury 30, 2014 from 11:00 a.m. until 8:00 p.m. at the funeral home to sign the guest register. The family will greet friends Thursday evening at the funeral home from 6:00 p.m. until 8:00 p.m.
The family suggests memorial contributions can be made to the Lloyd and Betty Meek Memorial Fund these may be left with the funeral home.
