Betty Rice

Betty (Trotter) Rice age 91 passed away with her daughter by her side on Monday, August 13, 2018 at Medicalodge Nursing Home in Coffeyville, Kansas.

Betty was born on August 20, 1926 to Robert and Rosie (Tatum) Trotter in Coffeyville, Kansas. Betty was the youngest of six children. On September 29, 1952 she married William "Bill" O. Rice in Bentonville, Arkansas. Following their marriage they made their home in Coffeyville. Betty worked in retail sales at JC Penny. She was a devoted wife always willing to help her husband; together they owned and operated the Rice Auto Repair, and Betty was often picking up parts, delivering cars to their owners, bookwork and various other task until their retirement in 1984. Bill preceded Betty in death in 1999. Betty was also a supportive and very loving mother to their daughter, Jody. She never missed a school activity and supported Jody in every way to succeed in life. She also enjoyed singing in the church choir, teaching Sunday school at the Bible Baptist Church and later teaching at Emmanuel Southern Baptist Church and Grace Baptist Church.

Betty's legacy and memories will carry on with her daughter, Jody Rice, nephew, Don Simmons and his wife Linda, great nephews, Curt, and Tony Simmons. She was preceded in death by her parents, her husband Bill, brothers, Virgil, Dick, Paul, and Jimmy Trotter, and sister, Delphia Simmons and Delphia's husband Paul, and great nephew Donald Simmons Jr.

Funeral services will be held on Friday, August, 17, 2018 at 11 am at Ford-Wulf-Bruns Chapel, 2405 Woodland Ave., Coffeyville, Kansas 67337. Interment will follow at Mount Hope Cemetery in Independence, Kansas. Visitation will be held on Thursday, August 16, 2018 from 5 to 7pm at the chapel.
