Betty Jo Sandon, age 85 lifelong resident of Coffeyville, passed away on Thursday, June 8, 2017 at the Cox Medical Center in Springfield, Missouri.
Betty was born in Coffeyville on August 18, 1931 to Clarence and Thelma (Norris) Neese. Betty attended Coffeyville schools and graduated from Field Kindley High School. Betty worked as a telephone operator at Southwestern Bell Telephone Company following her graduation. She was united in marriage to the love of her life, Herbert (Bud) Sandon on October 2, 1950 in Bentonville, Arkansas. The couple made their home in Coffeyville, where they were blessed with four children. Betty found employment with the Coffeyville school district as the school secretary for Garfield and later for McKinley. She retired after 30 years of devoted service to the district.
Betty enjoyed caring for her home and her yard, she loved spending time outdoors in her flower beds. Betty was a faithful member of the First United Methodist Church, serving as different chair and committee positions as needed. She was also a member of the EZ Chapter P.E.O Sisterhood. Betty was always willing to help others and will be remembered by many for her loving and kindness. One of her biggest joys in life was her family, she loved spending time with her husband, children, and grandchildren.
Her memories will live on with her children; David Sandon his wife Peggy, Mark Sandon his wife Tracy, Janet Wall, a sister Charlotte Neese, 11 grandchildren, 22 great-grandchildren, and 1 great-great-grandchild.
Betty now rests with her parents, her husband of 50 years; Bud, and daughter, Jean Leedy.
Funeral services will be held on Tuesday, June 13, 2017 at 10:00am at the First United Methodist Church, with Pastor Nicole Schwartz-Eck officiating. Interment will follow at Restlawn Memorial Park Cemetery. Friends are invited to sign the register and greet the family on Monday, June 12, 2017 at Ford-Wulf-Bruns Chapel from 5:00pm to 7:00pm. The family suggest memorials may be made payable to the First United Methodist Church or a charity of choice and they may be sent in care of Ford-Wulf-Bruns Chapel, 2405 Woodland Ave. Coffeyville, Kansas 67337.
