Bill Eugene Boan, 84, of Coffeyville, Kansas passed away Thursday, July 12, 2012 at his home. Bill was born on May 20, 1928 in Independence, Kansas to Charles and Neva Gillenwater Boan. He grew up in rural Independence near what is now known asThe Little House on the Prairie. He attended school at Wayside where he graduated from High School. In June of 1948 he enlisted in the United States Marine Corps, where he proudly served his country until his honorable discharge in June of 1952. He served in Korea where he received two Service Stars and was honored with a Good Conduct Medal. He was responsible for Heavy Equipment Operation on the front lines. Bill continued as a Heavy Equipment Operator through his entire working life and enjoyed it very much. He was still working as recently as a couple months ago. He also had a passion for hunting. He and a group of friends would spend many days hunting coyote and raccoon. Surviving to honor his memory are his nephew, Terry and wife, Carolyn Sanborn of Ketchum, Oklahoma niece, Judy and husband, KG Parman of Cleora, Oklahoma greatnieces, Sheila Torres, Michelle Hisaw greatnephew, Kalon E. Parman several greatgreat nieces and nephews many cousins and friends. He was preceded in death by his parents, Charles and Neva and a sister, Betty Jean Smith. Cremation has taken place and no public service will be held at this time. Friends may call on Friday, July 20, 2012 from 9:00 a.m. until 8:00 p.m. at PenwellGabel FordWulfBruns Funeral Home to sign the guest register. The family will greet friends at the funeral home on Friday evening from 6:00 p.m. until 8:00 p.m. In lieu of flowers, the family has suggested memorials can be made to the Children of Fallen Soldiers Relief Fund these may be left with the funeral home.
