Bill Howard Hendryx Coffeyville resident, Bill Howard Hendryx, entered into eternal rest on Thursday, July 26, 2007 in Coffeyville. He was 87. Mr. Hendryx was born on November 3, 1919 in Vinita, Oklahoma to John Webb and Nola Dosha Walker Hendryx. He moved to Coffeyville with his family in 1926 and graduated from Field Kindley Memorial High School in 1937. In October, 1941, Bill enlisted in the Army Air Corps, serving in the Pacific Theater as a crew chief on B17s and in the 505th with the B29s during World War II. He received two Bronze and two Silver Stars as well as two Presidential Citations before for a total of 13 citations in all before leaving the service in October, 1945. Bill married Donna Marie Stephens on June 16, 1946 in Coffeyville, Kansas. She preceded him in death on December 2, 2004 after 58 years of marriage. He worked for the Co-op as an operator at the Crude Unit for 33 years. He enjoyed gardening and rasing tomatoes. He was a member of the First United Methodist Church in Coffeyville. He was also a life member of the V.F.W. Post 1022 and the American Legion Post 20, both in Coffeyville. He is survived by sons, Howard Wayne and wife Marilyn Hendryx and Harold John and wife Marjean Hendryx, both of Coffeyville; daughter, Karen Hendryx of Coffeyville; sisters, Lou Harpster of Ponca City, Oklahoma and Jeannie Ponce of LeMesa, California; four grandsons; five great-grandaughters and one great-grandson. He was preceded in death by his parents; wife, Donna Hendryx; and one great-grandson, Chase Hendryx. Funeral services will be held at 10:00 a.m. on Monday, July 30, 2007 at the Penwell-Gabel Ford-Wulf-Bruns Chapel, 2405 Woodland in Coffeyville. Reverend John Collins of the First United Methodist Church in Coffeyville will officiate. Burial will follow at Robbins Cemetery, west of Coffeyville. Friends may call on Sunday, July 29, 2007 from 1:00 p.m. until 9:00 p.m. at Penwell-Gabel Ford-Wulf-Bruns Funeral Home to sign the guest register. The family will greet friends on Sunday evening from 6-8 pm at the funeral home. Memorial contributions may be made to American Cancer Society of the Harry Hynes Memorial Hospice.
