William Nolan Bill McElroy Sr., 77, of Coffeyville, Kansas passed away on Monday, January 20, 2014 after a fourteen year battle with cancer. He was born on October 12, 1936 to Hayden and Ailene Kinder McElroy in Topeka, Kansas. He grew up in Dennard, Arkansas where he loved riding horses, and playing Shinny and Kick the Can with his brothers.
Bill served in the United States Army for sixteen years, serving in Korea, Germany, Viet Nam, Missouri, Louisiana and Colorado. On September 4, 1964 he married Marjorie Marie Stahlman in Colorado Springs, Colorado. They moved to Coffeyville in 2006.
He was a member of the Coffeyville Congregation of Jehovahs Witnesses, having been baptised on April 28, 2001, something he held very dear to his heart.
Bill loved to hunt and fish but being Papa to his seven grandchildren and one greatgranddaughter was his special delight. He also loved animals and growing things in his garden.
Survivors include: his wife, Marjorie McElroy, of the home a son, William Tiffany McElroy Jr. of Fountain, CO., three daughters: LeAnna Troy Setzkorn of Rock, KS. Julie Jason Morin of The Dalles, OR., and Heather McElroy of Coffeyville, KS. six grandchildren: Sawyer McElroy, Sydney McElroy, Emily Morin, Michael Morin, Michael Setzkorn, Shandy Setzkorn, and a great granddaughter, Rilynn Setzkorn. Also surviving are his brothers: Brent Rosemary McElroy and Fred Gayla McElroy of Longton, KS., Hayden Junior McElroy of Kiln, MI., Paul McElroy and Robert Bobby McElroy of Colorado Springs, CO., and Tom Cindy McElroy of Empire, Co. sisters: Anita Nettie Rae McElroy and Doris Pitchford of Springfield, MO., Roberta Alvin Taylor of Longton, KS., and Annie Wright of Wichita, KS., brotherinlaw David Diane Tapia Stahlman, and sisterinlaw Cheryl Joe Swiatek of Colorado Springs, CO., numerous nieces and nephews, and a multitude of friends.
He was preceded in death by his parents his mother and fatherinlaw a brother, Loyd McElroy sister, Emma Lea Grulkey niece, Beverly Ann Swiatek and his beloved granddaughter, Caitlin Lane Setzkorn.
A Memorial Service will be held on Saturday, February 1, 2014 at the Kingdom Hall of Jehovahs Witnesses at 2:00 p.m. with John Heidelberg officiating. Private burial will follow.
In leiu of flowers, donations may be made to the Coffeyville Congregation of Jehovahs Witnesses, or the Ronald McDonald House in Memory of Caitlin Setzkorn these may also be left with the funeral home. FordWulfBruns Chapel in Coffeyville will be assisting with arrangements.
