Billy Garnett

Billy B. Garnett age 87, passed away on April 24, 2017 at Windsor Place in Coffeyville, Kansas.

Billy was born on April 25, 1929 in Cheney, Kansas to Thomas E. and Nellie B. (Hawkins) Garnett. Billy's family resided in the Wichita, Kansas area until 1943. Along with his parents and four sisters he relocated to West Fork, Arkansas where he attended and graduated high school in 1947. Shortly after high school in November of 1948 he joined the US Navy. While in the Navy he married his sweetheart, Mary Helen Brown on November 17, 1949 in West Fork, Arkansas, together they just celebrated their 63rd Anniversary spending the last 61 years in Coffeyville. Billy was very proud of his country and his years of service on the USS Cutlass. After his honorable discharge, Billy drove a truck for several places, owned and operated his own service station, owned and operated his own trucking company and last he worked as a security guard at Coffeyville Regional Medical Center before his retirement, he was known for his Hershey Kisses. Every evening he would make his rounds passing out a "Kiss" to all that were on shift for the evening asking them if they'd "Had Your Kiss Today".

Billy enjoyed taking Coffee Breaks, using the time as the perfect opportunity to visit with people, he enjoyed helping people and spending time with his grandchildren and great grandchildren. Billy has been a member of the First Southern Baptist Church for 50 plus years.

In addition to his loving wife, Mary Helen he is survived by his sons, Michael Garnett and his wife, Debbie of Joplin, Missouri, Billy Garnett and his wife Debbie of Independence, Missouri; daughters, Patty and husband Jeff Tellechea of Yuma, Arizona, Barbara and her husband Ron Hugo of Coffeyville, Kansas; sisters, Erma Lee Brown of Wichita, Kansas, Betty Rose Womack of Wynnewood, Oklahoma; twelve grandchildren, eighteen great grandchildren. He was preceded in death by his parents and two sisters.

Funeral Services will be held on Thursday, April 27, 2017 at 2:00 pm at Ford-Wulf-Bruns Chapel, 2405 Woodland Ave., Coffeyville, Kansas 67337. Interment will take place at Restlawn Memorial Park Cemetery, committal services will be at the Veterans Memorial Patio with the US Navy Honor Guard, VFW Post 1022 and American Legion Post 20 providing Military Honors. Visitation will be held on Wednesday, April 26, 2017 at Ford-Wulf-Bruns Chapel, friends are welcome to sign the book with the family receiving friends from 6 to 8 pm. The family has suggested memorial contributions be made payable to First Southern Baptist Church for Church Camp Scholarships. Contributions may be left in care of the chapel.
