Bob L Shafer age 80 of Coffeyville passed away on May 12, 2019 at Coffeyville Regional Medical Center
Bob was born on August 30, 1938 in Caney, KS to George and Myrtle (Thomison) Shafer. He was raised in the Caney area where he attended the Caney High School. After school Bob began working at the Caney Glass Plant and the Carpenters union in Coffeyville. He started his own construction company Bob Shafer Building and Remodeling where he built at least 30 homes in the Coffeyville area and remodeled countless others. Bob then took a position with Medicalodges Inc. where he was the vice president of construction for many years.
Bob met Earlene Glidewell on a blind date in 1953, they started a two year relationship before Bob asked for her hand in marriage. They were united in marriage December 8, 1955 in Caney, KS at the First Assembly of God. The couple was blessed with 4 children and later many grandchildren. Bob was on the advisory board of Directors for the Coffeyville Salvation Army, he was the past president and a charter member of the Montgomery County Home Builders Association, he was a Boy Scout and Cub Scout leader, and a member of the Lions Club.
Bob loved to work, and create things with his hands. He enjoyed hunting especially pheasant and quail, fishing, restoring classic cars, his pride being a 55 Crown Victoria and 30 Ford Model A. He took the Crown Vic on the road to many car shows even claiming a national championship trophy with it. In his most recent years he loved being out in his flower gardens, spending time in nature and continuing to work with his hands. Bob was an active member of the First Church of God where he loved to serve the Lord and his church family. Bob will be remembered mostly for his huge heart, always putting God and his family first. He was always kind to everybody he met and possessed a gentle demeanor. Bob had a will to live and he lived well, even living with pancreatic cancer for over 7 years and wasn't one to complain. One factor driving that will, was Bobs sincere love for Earlene, the couple walked through life hand in hand never far apart from each other. Whatever medical hurdle came his way he fought it.
