Boyd DeWayne Thomas, of Coffeyville, left this Earth to be with his Heavenly Father on Wednesday, February 22, 2012, at Coffeyville Regional Medical Center in Coffeyville, Kansas. Graveside service will be at 2 p.m. Friday at Restlawn Memorial Park Cemetery with Chaplain Mike Graham of Harry Hynes Memorial Hospice officiating. Friends may call Friday from 9 a.m. to 1 p.m. at PenwellGabel FordWulfBruns Chapel in Coffeyville, with the family receiving visitors from Noon to 1 p.m. Boyd was born September 8, 1921 in Coffeyville, the son of William and Stella Fronia Smith Thomas. He went to school at Whittier, Roosevelt and Field Kindley. On September 8, 1942 he entered the US Army in World War II. He served as Staff Sergeant in the machine gun section. He was the leader of a two squad, 6 man team. Boyd first married Zelma Lee Strader in July 1945. Two sons were born, Jerry Wade Thomas and Charles Boyd Thomas. He and his first wife were divorced in 1968. Then in 1970, he married Garnett G. Woods. She passed away October 12, 2006. Boyd first worked for Acme Foundry in 1947 to 1948. Next he went to work at the Coop Refinery. He retired from there after 32 years of service. The best part of his life was serving God at the South Coffeyville United Methodist Church. He served as a ministers assistant for 26 years. He also taught Sunday School for 25 years. He was a lover of Gods Holy Word and his Church congregation. He loved baseball and fishing. He was a lifetime member of D.A.V. and also a member of Local Union 123. He really enjoyed living his long life. He spent his final yearandahalf at the Medicalodge of Coffeyville. He was preceded in death by his parents brothers, Holbert Thomas and Raynes Thomas and sister, Maxine Newton. He is survived by his two sons, Jerry W. Connie Thomas, Sulphur Springs, Texas, and Charles B. Vicki Thomas, Coffeyville three grandchildren, Jerry D. Thomas, Shaun W. Thomas, and Tabitha D. Thomas and two greatgrandchildren.
