Carl Bates

Carl Junior Bates, 72, of Claremore, Oklahoma, passed away Sunday, September 28, 2008. Carl was born on May 16, 1936 in Doniphan, Missouri, the son of Mae and Earl Hink. Growing up, Carl attended and graduated from Coffeyville Schools. Following graduation, he served in the U.S. Army for 2 years. He later attended Pittsburgh University where he earned his Bachelors Degree in Accounting. Carl retired from American Airlines after many years of service. He is survived by his children, Ashley Mertins and husband, Carl of Claremore, Oklahoma; Steve Bates of California; and his grandchildren. He was preceded in death by his parents. Graveside Funeral Services will be held at 2:00 p.m., Thursday, October 2, 2008 at Elmwood Cemetery, 16th and Elm, Coffeyville, Kansas. Friends may call on Wednesday, October 1, 2008 from 1:00 p.m. until 9:00 p.m. at the Penwell-Gabel Ford-Wulf-Bruns Chapel where the family will receive friends from 6:00 p.m. until 8:00 p.m. that evening.
