Carl Hunt

Carl R. Hunt of Coffeyville passed away Monday, May 4, 2009 at Coffeyville Regional Medical Center. He was 97. Mr. Hunt was born June 12, 1911 in Coffeyville, Kansas to Charles Rufus and Lilly Mae Walker Hunt. He grew up and attended Coffeyville schools. December 9, 1931 he married Edythe Maggie McKerlie in Parsons, Kansas. Mr. Hunts employment includes Benefiel Grocery, Ludowici Celadon Roof and Tile Company, California Ship Building Company in San Pedro, California, Kansas Ammunitions Plant in Parsons, Kansas and the Ozark Smelting and Mining Company, which became Sherwin Williams Company, from 1945 until his retirement in 1973 as a Calciner Operator. Mr. Hunt and his wife, from 1963 to 1986, provided a home for 107 foster children from one day old to 18 years of age. He was a member of the First Southern Baptist Church where he served as custodian for 13 years and has served as deacon since 1967. Surviving to honor his memory are four grandchildren, Donna E. Sears and husband, Carl, Brad Hunt, Bret D. Hunt and his wife, Patricia, all of Collinsville, Oklahoma and Eyde K. Redfearn and her husband, Randy of Talala, Oklahoma; nine great-grandchildren; six great-great-grandchildren; one brother, Jess Hunt of Baxter Springs, Kansas; and many other relatives and friends. He was preceded in death by his loving wife, Edythe on August 14, 1997; parents; his only son David Dean Hunt; three brothers, Wayne, Roy and Lawrence; five sisters, Walsie, Icy, Nellie, Ester and Effie. A funeral service will be held Wednesday, May 4, 2009 at 11:00 AM at First Southern Baptist Church in Coffeyville. Reverend Stephen Heslip will officiate. Burial will follow at Penwell-Gabels Restlawn Memorial Park Cemetery. Friends may call on Tuesday, May 6, 2009 from 9am to 8pm at Ford-Wulf-Bruns Chapel to sign the guest register.
