Carla C. Cline, 50, Coffeyville, KS, died Saturday, February 7, 2009 at the VA Medical Center, Kansas City, Missouri. Carla was born February 5, 1959 at Seattle, Washington to John Akkerman and Velva M. Tiry Akkerman. She was adopted by George O. Honeycutt at an early age. Mr. Honeycutt was a member of the U.S. Army, so the family lived several places during Carla39;s childhood, including, Santa Anna, California. Carla came to Coffeyville in 1969 and during her teenage years, had many fond memories of her foster parents, Marty and Ben Wells. She graduated from Field Kindley High School in May of 1977, and attended college at Pitt State and Emporia State. Carla was a member of the US Marines, stationed on Paris, Island. She left the Marine Corps to marry Robert Cline II in August, 1978. Carla worked in security after leaving the Marines. Carla was a member of First Southern Baptist Church of Coffeyville and she enjoyed watching TV and playing computer games. She loved to watch movies, especially John Wayne movies. She had a creative streak which manifested itself in the form of ceramics and stained glass artwork. Her animals, Little Miss and Blackie, were a constant source of joy in her life. Carla was a member of Disabled American Veterans and Paralyzed Veterans of America. She is survived by her foster parents, Marty and Ben Wells of Coffeyville; a son, Robert Cline, III, formerly of Maryland; a daughter, Tasa Marie Cline of Coffeyville; one brother, Charles Honeycutt of Roseville, California and an uncle, Ronald Tiry and his wife, Margaret of San Francisco, California. She was prececed in death by her parents and by a brother, George Honeycutt. A traditional wake will be held in Carla39;s memory, 6 p.m., Monday, February 16, 2009 at the Coffeyville VFW Post 1022. Her family invites all of Carla39;s friends to come and share a potluck dinner and their memories of her, together. The family suggests that those who wish may donate to Paralyzed Veterans of America and donations may be left at Penwell-Gabel Ford-Wulf-Bruns Chapel.
