Carla Jean Eighmy, 79 of Coffeyville, Kansas, died Tuesday afternoon, December 4, 2012 at Coffeyville Regional Medical Center.
She was born January 19, 1933 in Caney, Kansas to Carl and Nina McGee Killion. Carla received her early education in Caney public schools. She graduated from Baxter Springs High School, as well as Mount Carmel School of Nursing in Pittsburg, Kansas. She later earned a Bachelor of Nursing Science degree from Pittsburg State University.
On December 20, 1953, she married Robert L. Eighmy in Baxter Springs, Kansas. He preceded her in death in 1976.
Mrs. Eighmy was a registered nurse, working for a number of years as staff nurse in hospitals in Texas, Missouri, Arkansas and Florida. She interrupted her nursing career to raise a family. Carla returned to the nursing profession and ultimately became Night Supervisor at Coffeyville Regional Medical Center for more than 20 years, retiring in 1997.
In her retirement she retirement she enjoyed monthly lunches with her closest friends, sampling different area restaurants during each gettogether. She was very fond of her cats, especially Himalayan and Siamese breeds of cats. Carla was an avid reader of books, newspapers and magazines. Being an old school type of person, she regularly expressed her contempt for hightech electronic items such as computers, the Internet, cell phones and video players or games to her family members and friends. She also refused to use ATM card and machines, preferring instead oldfashioned banking by check.
She was a member of the First United Methodist Church in Coffeyville, the American Nurses Association and a lifelong Democrat.
Survivors include four sons, Robert and wife Anne of Pittsburg, William and wife Kelly of Bartlesville, Oklahoma, David of Coffeyville and Richard of the home a daughter, Katherine Conger of the home eight grandchildren and three greatgrandchildren.
In addition to her husband, she was preceded in death by her parents.
She has been cremated and private services will be held at a future date.
