Carol Louise Garner, 82, of Coffeyville, Kansas died Tuesday, April 20, 2010 at St. Johns Hospital in Joplin, Missouri. She was born November 18, 1927 in Cherryvale, Kansas to Rolla and Clara Edgar Adey. Carol graduated from Cherryvale High School in 1945. On June 4, 1949 she married Wayne W. Garner in Cherryvale. Before moving to Coffeyville in 1954, the couple lived in Parsons and Independence, Kansas. Carol attended the Assembly of God Church where she taught Sunday School to many young people over the years. She worked in the shoe department of the Coffeyville WalMart store for 18 years. Carol also served as a volunteer member of the Coffeyville Regional Medical Center Auxiliary for more than 10 years and received an honorary lifetime membership in the Parent Teachers Association PTA. Carol is survived by two sons: Jay Wayne Garner and wife Debra of Independence and Jimmie David Garner of Lawrence, Kansas, grandsons: Aaron Garner and wife Amber of Coffeyville and Benjamin Garner of Independence, greatgranddaughter Hailey Garner of Coffeyville, brother David Adey of Independence and sister Sue McClaren of Cherryvale. She is preceded in death by her parents, brother Rolla Allen Adey and her husband Wayne. Funeral services for Carol Garner will be held Friday, April 23, 2010 at 10:00a.m. at PenwellGabel Funeral Home in Coffeyville, officiated by Nellie Briggans, followed by interment in Mt. Hope Cemetery in Independence. Carol will lie in state at the funeral home on Thursday, April 22, 2010 from 1:00p.m. until 8:00p.m. In lieu of flowers, friends may make contributions to the Coffeyville Regional Medical Center Auxiliary.
