Beloved daughter, sister, wife, mother and grandmother Carole Ann Brown passed away on Tuesday, November 12, 2024 at Grove Nursing Center in Grove, Oklahoma at the age of 86. Carole’s family remained by her side until Jesus came to take her to her mansion in Heaven just as he promised that He was preparing just for her.
Carole was born on June 2, 1938 in Parsons, Kansas to Willard and Lola (Shufelt) Maxson. The Maxson family resided in Edna, Kansas where Carole and her siblings Leon and Jean all attended school. While in high school Carole met her high school sweetheart Charles “Charlie” Brown. During her high school years, she was a cheerleader and graduated from Edna High School in 1955.
Sixty-nine years of wedding bliss was celebrated just this past September by Carole and Charlie. They were married on September 22, 1955 at the Edna Methodist Church where Carole had grown up attending. The two made Edna their home and raised their son Duane. Edna Methodist Church was their place of worship until 1975 when they moved to Grove, Oklahoma. Mount Herman Church in Jay, Oklahoma became their home church and attended regularly until Carole’s health declined.
In 1967 Carole began working as the secretary for the Superintendent of Altamont School system and worked with dedication until 1975. After moving to Grove, she filled in as a temporary secretary for the Superintendent of Grove Schools just until they could find someone, but that led to a twenty-one-year tenure.
Carole found great joy in spending time with her family, she was a wonderful cook always preparing special meals, making sure there was something to their individual liking. Holiday meals were a delicious feast, and the table settings were splendidly placed. She made sure their home was welcoming and perfectly decorated for every season. Carole enjoyed traveling with Charlie together, they visited all 50 states. She was an avid shopper; she and her friends could shop all day searching for the perfect bargain and often returning home empty handed but the time spent in fellowship was the real reward.
Carole was spiritual, capable, intelligent, and virtuous. She was more precious than rubies to her family, she always brought the best out in them. Carole loved deeply and embraced her role as wife, mom and grandma with such grace and with honor that God chose her for just that role.
Those who called her blessed and will cherish everyday they shared with her are her husband Charlie Brown of the home, son Duane Brown and wife Claretta, grandchildren Christine Whitten and husband Michael, Charla Brown, and great grandchildren Caleb Whitten and wife Lacy and Koltin Scott, great-great grandchildren Lizzy Whitten and Abby Whitten. She was preceded in death by her parents, brother Leon Maxson and sister Jean Paul.
The family will receive friends on Sunday, November 17, 2024 at Ford-Wulf-Bruns Chapel, 2405 Woodland Ave., Coffeyville, Kansas from 3 to 5pm. Funeral services celebrating Carole’s life will be held on Monday, November 18, 2024 at 10am at Ford-Wulf-Bruns Chapel with Pastor Greg Highsmith officiating. Interment will follow at North Edna Cemetery in Edna, Kansas. For those wishing to make a memorial contribution in Carole’s memory the family has requested those be made payable to Good Shepherd Hospice. Contributions may be left in the care of the chapel.
