Carole Patterson

Carole Louise (Steeby) Patterson went to be with the Lord, Jesus Christ on Monday March 15, 2021 surrounded by her loving family at her side. Carole was 83 years young and was living in Spring, Texas at the time of her passing. She and her family have been longtime residents of Coffeyville, Kansas. Carole was born as a preemie on October 6, 1937 to parents John and Gertrude “Gertie” Steeby in Eureka, Kansas as she was the last of the “Steeby 6” as her daddy once put it “Gertie, if we can’t do better than this, so we best stop now!” Being the youngest of 6 and having 4 older brothers Carole always had someone to tag along with wherever they would go. During her younger years, the family moved to Oklahoma due to her father’s job with the RR company, but they eventually found themselves settling down in Mound Valley, Kansas.

Carole graduated from Mound Valley High School in 1955. She then began attending Coffeyville Community College also working numerous jobs while attending classes. It would be only a short time later that Carole would find her calling at Coffeyville Memorial Hospital which would later become C.R.M.C. She began as a switchboard operator and slowly worked her way up the ladder to become the Business Office manager. While working at the hospital she would meet her soulmate - Mr. Alvan L. Patterson. The two were married in 1958 and enjoy a very fulfilled life with their kids. They enjoyed traveling all over the country, both were members of White Shrine and volunteered in their community. Carole decided to retire from C.R.M.C after a very blessed 40 years working for them. Sadly in 2007 and just shy of their 50th wedding anniversary Alvan passed away in their hometown of Coffeyville, Kansas. To fill her time after his passing she continued to be a dedicated and involved member to other community services & ladies fellowship organizations until her recent passing. She was proud to be a part of the Eastern Star-EVA Chapter, KAFCE organization, Valeda Family & Friends, and a member of the Coffeyville United Methodist Church. Carole looked forward to returning back to Coffeyville every May for the yearly Alumni Banquet that would bring together graduates of many years from her high school. This yearly trip brought pure joy and excitement to Carole.

In 2009 she decided that she wanted to take on a new adventure and headed south, like way south. She moved to Spring, Texas to be close to her daughter, April but also to her granddaughters there. From attending their school activities and sporting events there was far no bigger fan in the stand then “Grandma” as she is so affectionately called by many. She had no problem arguing with the referees when she felt they made a bad call against her granddaughters or yelling extra loud for them. Grandma was often referred to as being small in stature but mighty, heck even sassy at times when she needed to be but that is what was so precious about her - She was her own stick of dynamite that just happened to come in a small package!!!! Grandma always had your back, your friends back because she knew that the Good Lord always had hers! When you think of her it is hard not to think of her as a Giver, Selfless, Always You before Her but most of all she was the most non-judgmental person no matter who you were. Carole knew no strangers and her boldness attitude is one of her most treasured attributes!!

Carole will be greatly missed and remembered by her precious pup Pica Patterson, her “Big Brother” Johnny Steeby, daughter April (Melvin) Stewart, daughter Louva (Steve) Glidwell and Ralph (Shirley) Patterson, grandchildren: Kay and Great Granddaughter Kadin Castleberry, Steven Castleberry, Ashton (Jason) Eastland and Great Granddaughter Sofia Jade Eastland, Keely (Alan) Spiegelhaur, Kylee Cockrell and Wesley Myers. Carole shared a special relationship with all her many nieces and nephews from all over the United States along with several extended family members as she loved and cared for all that were blessed to know her and share parts of their lives with her. She is preceded in death by her husband Alvan, her dog Griffon Bradee Stewart, sister Thelma Marie Patterson, brothers Herbert, Raymond and Carl Steeby, extended family Sonny Patterson, Gene Patterson, Shirley Johnson, and Great Granddaughter Hunter Renae along with several relatives over the years.

Please join the family in celebrating the love and joy that Carole Patterson brought to all at 10:00 am on Monday, March 22, 2021 at Ford-Wulf-Burns Chapel, 2405 Woodland Ave., Coffeyville, Kansas. Pastor Melvin Stewart will officiate the service. The service will be streamed live via Facebook Life on the Ford-Wulf-Bruns Chaple page just prior to the service. They will be a visitation with the family on Sunday March 21, 2021 from 4 pm to 6 pm also at Ford-Wulf-Bruns Chapel. Immediately following the service, Carole will be laid to eternal rest in Restlawn Cemetery, Coffeyville, Kansas. Serving as Pallbearers will be Ralph Patterson, Mike Purkey, Ron Steeby, Gary Steeby,  David Steeby and Jay Purkey.

The family would like to send a heartfelt Thank You to the wonderful staff at “Unlimited Care Cottages - The Cooper House” in Spring, Texas for all the care and love they showed to Mom/Grandma these past few months. To these 4 amazing and wonderful ladies who became her friend, her reassurance, and above & beyond caregivers Agnes, Freedah, Katie and Sonia: Carole loved each one of you dearly, Thank You!
