CHARLES H. CHUCK SPENCER Coffeyville resident, Charles H. Chuck Spencer, entered into eternal rest on October 22, 2007 in Coffeyville, Kansas. He was 87. Mr. Spencer was born May 16, 1920 in Salina, Kansas to Herbert and Mary C. Casterline Spencer. He attended school in Nowata, Oklahoma. Mr. Spencer served in the U.S. Army during WWII and became a career non-commissioned officer, retiring as Master Sergeant in 1961. He served 10 years over seas, and earned the Combat Infantry Badge, Purple Heart, 5 Bronze BattleStars, and the Army Air Force Commendation. On July 1, 1965, he married Helen Rose Gaston in Miami, Oklahoma. She preceded him in death February 21, 1990. Following his retirement, Mr. Spencer worked for Funk Manufacturing and Halliburtons. He also managed the Coffeyville and Independence V.F.W. Clubs. Charles was a life member of Veterans of Foreign Wars Post No. 1022 and American Legion Post 20 of Coffeyville. He became a resident of Medical Lodge Nursing Home on August 30, 2001. He is survived by a daughter, Barbara Bollettieri, of Staten Island, NY; step-son, Ted Pierce, of Locust Grove, OK; 2 step-daughters, Jan Whittenburg of Coffeyville, KS and Martha Rae Lain of South Coffeyville, OK; a brother, Ralph Spencer, of Dodge City, Kansas; 2 sisters, Lucille Minniear, of Nowata, OK and Dorothy Bradford of Arvada, CO; 2 grandchildren, and 8 step-grandchildren. One great grandson and 15 step-great grandchildren and two step great-great grandaughters. He was preceded in death by his parents, wife Helen Rose. Graveside Services will be held at 10:00 am on Thursday, October 25, 2007 in Penwell-Gabels Restlawn Memorial Park Cemetery. Dr. Wayne Norton will officiate. Services are under the direction of the Penwell-Gabel Ford-Wulf-Bruns Funeral Home of Coffeyville. Friends may call at the Penwell-Gabel Ford-Wulf-Bruns Funeral Home on Wednesday from 9 am until 9 pm to sign the guest register. Memorials may be made to American Cancer Society in care of breast cancer research. These may be left with the Funeral Home.
