Charles Curtis Williams, 82, of Coffeyville, Kansas passed away Tuesday, March 29, 2011 at his home. Charles was born October 9, 1928 in Independence, KS to Walter and Celestia Cerruthers Williams. He grew up in the Independence area until his parents passed away. He was raised by his relatives in Parsons, KS. Charles moved to Coffeyville in 1947 until he was united in marriage in 1987 to Penny Scott in Independence, Kansas where the couple made their home. He worked for the railroad, Frito Lay Construction, Montgomery County Sheriffs Department and the Montgomery County Road and Bridge crew until his retirement in 1993. He returned to Coffeyville in 2005. Charles loved all sports, especially the St. Louis Cardinals. He taught himself to read and enjoyed reading very much. He was a band promoter, bringing up and coming musicians to the local area to play. Some of the artists he brought to town were Ike and Tina Turner, Bobby Blue Band, James Brown and several others. He enjoyed music, cooking , eating and was a big supporter of his childrens activities and sporting events. Most of all he enjoyed his time with family and friends. Charles was a member of the Maple Street Missionary Baptist Church in Independence, Kansas. He served as Trustee of the Board, Sunday School Teacher, Deacon and was a proud member of the Southeast District Laymen Mens Choir. He is survived by his companion, Penny Williams sons, Jarnel Webb and wife, Ruby of Parsons, KS, Jeffery Webb of Parsons,KS, Peter Scott and companion, Dawn of Lawrence, KS daughters, Vivian Blair of Longbeach, CA, Candace Richardson of Topeka, KS, Pia Scott of Topeka, KS, Shmiah Scott of Coffeyville, KS twenty grandchildren, twentyfour greatgrandchildren special relative AV Lewis of California and a host of nieces, nephews, cousins and friends. He was preceded in death by his parents, Walter and Celestia two brothers, Lawrence Williams and Walter Williams, Jr. Funeral services will be held on Saturday, April 2, 2011 at 10:00 a.m. at the Calvary Baptist Church in Coffeyville, KS. Reverend W. E. Colbert will officiate. A private burial will take place at a later time. Friends may call on Friday, April 1, 2011 at PenwellGabel FordWulfBruns Chapel in Coffeyville, KS to sign the guest register. The family suggests memorial contributions can be made to the Calvary Baptist Church in Coffeyville, KS. These may be left with the funeral home.
