Charlotte Irene Tongier, 89, of Coffeyville, Kansas died Saturday, March 6, 2010, 15 days before her 90th birthday at Coffeyville Regional Medical Center, surrounded by her family and following a short illness. She was born March 21, 1920 in Coffeyville to Raymond D. Pfister and Velma G. Furnish Pfister. She was one of six children. Charlotte received her teaching certificate and taught in Liberty, Kansas before taking a job at S.H. Kress. She then joined the National Refining Company as the lab secretary, where she met her husband Wayne Tongier. They were married July 8, 1944. Charlotte was a member of Holy Name Catholic Church in Coffeyville and was on the Altar Society. She had a very inquisitive mind and was well read. She loved to play the piano and teaching her children harmony and rounds so they could all sing together. She also enjoyed playing cards and all games. Her husband Wayne gave her a snare drum this past Christmas and she was learning to play it. She was preceded in death by her parents, brothers and sisters and one beloved soninlaw Bing Willis. Survivors include her children Catherine Willis, Randy and wife Jane Tongier and Toni and husband Walt Weakley, four grandchildren and four greatgrandchildren. A rosary will be said at PenwellGabel Funeral Home in Coffeyville at 7:00PM on Monday, March 8, 2010. Following cremation private inurnment will take place at Calvary Cemetery, Coffeyville.
