Clifford Cerny

Coffeyville resident, Clifford L. Cerny, entered into eternal rest on Tuesday, September 25, 2007 in Coffeyville, Kansas. He was 92. Clifford was born September 11, 1915 in Anna, Illinois to Aloysius Hubert and Sarah Caraker Cerny. He graduated high school from Anna, Illinois. Clifford then hitched rides on trains to Coffeyville to join his brother after graduation. He later graduated from Coffeyville Community College. He married Frenia Fitzpatrick on August 8,1936 in Missouri. They made their home in Coffeyville. Clifford was employed by Co-op Refinery. He retired in 1980. He enjoyed cruises, attending horse races in Hot Springs, Arkansas and the Kentucky Derby. Clifford has been an avid golfer for 27 years since his retirement. He kept a garden every summer. He enjoyed attending CCC Red Raven Football and Basketball games regularly. Clifford spent a lot of time with his family at gatherings. He played in bridge card clubs throughout all of his adult life. He and his wife enjoyed dancing and won several contests. He is survived by his wife, Frenia, of the home; son, Ronald Cerny; daughters, Joan Mills and husband, Larry; Kathy Williams and husband, Rex; Jackie Waddell and husband, Danny, all of Coffeyville; grandchildren, Terri Stoops of Carl Junction, MO; Kristi Martin of Dickinson, TX; Rhonda Pauls of Springdale, AR; Stacey Baker of St. Joseph, MO; Stephanie Adame of South Coffeyville, OK; Bronwen Cerny of Topeka, KS; Amanda Shelton of Edgerton, KS; Brad Williams of Atlanta, GA; Ryan Williams of Ft. Worth, TX; Kayla Williams of Coffeyville, KS; Lori Bryan of Arlington, TX; Lisa Waddell of Tulsa, OK; Amy Salter of Lees Summitt, MO; 18 great-grandchildren and two on the way; 1 great-great-grandchild. Services will be held at 2:00 p.m. on Friday, September 28, 2007 at the First United Methodist Church. Reverend John Collins will officiate and burial will follow in Penwell-Gabels Restlawn Memorial Park Cemetery. Friends may call from 9 a.m. until 9 p.m. on Thursday, September 28, 2007 at Penwell-Gabel Ford-Wulf-Bruns Funeral Home to sign the guest register. The family will receive friends Thursday evening from 6-8 p.m. Memorials may be made to the American Cancer Society. These may be left with the funeral home.
