Connie Abaloz, 87, of South Coffeyville, Oklahoma, died Sunday evening, April 12, 2009 at her home. Connie was born December 28, 1921 at Cherryvale, Kansas to Eleno Ruiz and Alta Gracia Carillo Ruiz. She grew up and attended school at St. Andrews in Independence, Kansas. Connie married Paul Abaloz on July 14, 1945 at Independence. During the course of her life, she worked for the Kansas Ammunition Plant in Parsons; Automotive Control in Independence and USD 445 Coffeyville in the Food Services Department, retiring in 2002. Connie was a member of Coffeyvilles Holy Name Catholic Church and its Altar Society. She did volunteer work at Coffeyville Regional Medical Center as a member of the Pink Ladies. Connie was also a member of the VFW Auxiliary and Order of Eastern Star, both in Coffeyville. Connie also enjoyed cooking, planting flowers and her grandchildren and great-grandchildren. Survivors include her son, RobertBob Abaloz of Coffeyville, Kansas; one daughter, Barbara Thompson and her husband, Gary of Owasso, Oklahoma; two sisters, Betty Ysusi of Independence, Kansas and Aurota Verdin of Chanute, Kansas; four grandchildren, Angela Groff and her husband, Jeff of Independence, Kansas, Michele Beard of Owasso, Oklahoma, Gunnery Sergeant Gabriel Abaloz U.S.M.C. and his wife, Kim of Pensacola, Florida and Eric Abaloz and his wife, Selia of Queens Creek, Arizona; two step-grandchildren, Sarah Thompson of Owasso and Regan Thompson of Independence; nine great-grandchildren and four step-great-grandchildren and special friends, Jackie and Rebecca Benning. She was preceded in death by her parents; by her husband, Paul on March 22, 1992; by a daughter, Ginger Felkins on May 20, 1997 and by four brothers and six sisters. Funeral mass will be held 10 AM, Friday, April 17, 2009 at Holy Name Catholic Church with Father Ben Nguyen officiating. Interment will be in Coffeyvilles Calvary Cemetery under the direction of Penwell-Gabel Ford-Wulf-Bruns Chapel. Rosary service will be Thursday, 7 PM at Holy Name and visitation will be held at the funeral home Thursday from 9 AM-5 PM. Donations to Holy Name Church in memory of Connie may be left at Penwell-Gabel Funeral Home.
