Cora Lucille Champion was accepted into the arms of God on October 14, 2015, which she so deserved.
She was born on May 8, 1926 in Coffeyville, Kansas to J.T. and Cora (Greenup) Jennings. She attended grade school at Snow Creek where she often rode the family horse to school along with her three brothers, sending him back home on his own once they got to school. She lived a farm girl's life. To attend her high school graduation at Field Kindley Memorial High, she had to catch a ride in a rowboat then walk the railroad line several miles to beat the flood of 1943.
On a visit to Albuquerque, New Mexico in 1943 to visit an older brother, she met P.A. Champion - the man of her dreams. They married a few months later. After his discharge from the Army Air Force, they returned to Coffeyville where they raised two children and attended Emmanuel Baptist Church. She served as a Sunday School teacher, choir member and regular attender.
After her family was raised, she studied and received her Nurse Aide Certificate so that she could work at Medicalodge East and care for people residing there. It was there that she cared for her husband during a long illness, and then for many others in their final days.
Cora's greatest sense of satisfaction always came from dedicating herself to others. She was the embodiment of Jesus' teachings to put others first - whether it was caring for her family members, or helping to care for the children of friends, or caring for neighbors, she was always there to help all who knew her.
She is survived by her daughter and son-in-law, Carolyn and Brian Wiggs of Jenks, Oklahoma; grandchildren: Erin & Carrie DeWeese, Aaron Champion, Cahn & Joelle Wiggs, and Carl & Sarah Harrel, and 5 great grandchildren. She is also survived by one brother Clem Jennings and his family (Carolyn and Tim Jennings), nieces Jerry & Jerrie Ann Lowrance and Janet Freel. By love, she is survived by Larry and Libby Fink and their three children, Winnie Fink, Chris Fink, and Melissa Vangelis.
She was preceded in death by her husband, P.A. Champion, and her son, Michael. She previously lost her parents and two older brothers.
Funeral Services will be held at Emmanuel Baptist Church at 10:00 am on Monday, October 19th, the family will receive friends at the church from 8:00am until service time. She will be laid to rest in Restlawn Cemetery under the direction of Ford-Wulf-Bruns Chapel. Memorials are suggested to Emmanuel Southern Baptist Church in her name and can be sent to Ford-Wulf-Bruns Chapel. To leave the family a message of condolence please visit www.fordwulfbrunschapel.com
