Cora Fern Cornell Age 97, of Coffeyville, Kansas died Sunday morning, January 16, 2005 at Coffeyville Regional Medical Center. Cora Fern Cornell was born April 8, 1907 in a sod house at Lincoln, Nebraska to Carrier Almond and Cora Elizabeth Hack Dewey. She moved to Labette County with her family in 1908, attending school in Edna, and was graduated from Edna High School in 1926. On September 16, 1926, she married William Owen Cornell at Oswego, Kansas. After their marriage, the couple made their home on a farm one mile north of Edna where they farmed and raised cattle. Mrs. Cornell did substitute teaching in Oklahoma. Mr. Cornell died December 29, 1965 in Coffeyville. Mrs. Cornell moved to Coffeyville in 1969 to make her home. She enjoyed sewing and crocheting. Mrs. Cornell is survived by: three sons, William Dewey Cornell, of Maxcreek, MO Donald Eugene Cornell, of Shawnee, KS Jack Steven Cornell, of Coffeyville, KS 11 grandchildren; 1 stepgrandson; 24 great-grandchildren and 6 great-great-grandchildren. She is also preceded in death by her parents; three brothers, Almond, Joe and Raymond; two sisters, Violet and Mildred. Cremation has taken place and a memorial service will be at a later date in the spring. The family would welcome memorials to the CRMC Foundation. These gifts may be left at the funeral home. Arrangements are being handled by Penwell-Gabel Ford-Wulf-Bruns Chapel, Coffeyville, Kansas.
