Cornelia Fort Davis of Coffeyville passed away Thursday, June 17, 2010 at CRMC. Cornelia was born July 28, 1920 in Tuscaloosa, Alabama to Charles T. and Lesta Baker Fort. She attended the University of Alabama and also the University of Texas. Cornelia was a member of the PEO Sisterhood and the First United Methodist Church of Coffeyville. She accompanied her husband on his Navy assignments in the United States as well as in Japan and London, England. She was active in Hospital Auxiliary volunteer work during these assignments, as well as Navy Officers Wives Clubs. While living in Harlingen, Texas she also volunteered in the Harlingen Literacy Center and was active in activities at the First United Methodist Church there. Before moving to Coffeyville she and her husband attended the historic St. Nicholas Navy Chapel at the Navy Air Warfare Center at Patuxent River, Maryland. Surviving to honor her memory is a son, Hilton Fort Tex and his wife Waneta Davis of Coffeyville a grand daughter, Elayne Marshall of Coffeyville and several nieces and nephews in Texas. She was preceded in death by her loving husband, Hilton parents a son, William Scott Davis and three brothers, William BakerBill Fort, Tom Fort and Frank Fort. Funeral Services will be held at 2:00 p.m. Monday, June 21, 2010 at PenwellGabel FordWulfBruns Chapel in Coffeyville with Reverend John Collins officiating. A private family inurnment will follow at a later date at the DallasFort Worth National Cemetery in Texas. Friends may call on Sunday, June 20, 2010 at the funeral home to sign the guest register from 1:00 p.m. until 5:00 p.m. Family will greet friends from 3:00 p.m. until 5:00 p.m. The family has suggested memorial contributions can be made to the First United Methodist Church of Coffeyville or the PEO Scholarship Fund these may be left with the funeral home.
