Cretta Violet Barber, 89, of Coffeyville died Thursday, May 6, 2010, in Windsor Place. She was born August 18, 1920, to Joseph Albert and Lovina Flavila Oneslager Stephens in Independence, Kansas. The family moved to Coffeyville while she was in elementary school, and she completed her education here. On December 21, 1939, she married Estel Leroy Barber in Claremore, Oklahoma. They made their home in Coffeyville where she was a homemaker. Mr. Barber preceded her in death January 7, 2005. Mrs. Barber was a member of the First Christian Church. She was an avid bowler, participating until she was 83 years of age. Mrs. Barber was a member of several bowling teams and traveled to many state and national tournaments. She is survived by children Carol and Stan Eli, Rick and Nikki Barber, all of Coffeyville, four grandchildren, John Eli of Laporte, Colorado, Kak EliSchneider of Topeka, Kori Beth Harakel of Lacey, Washington, and Jesse Barber of Ft. Sill, Oklahoma four greatgrandchildren, Abbie Eli of Kansas City, Missouri, Alex Eli of Lawrence, Eli and Ty Schneider, both of Topeka and two brothers, Loren of Jones, Oklahoma and Eugene of Texas. In addition to her husband, Mrs. Barber was preceded in death by a son, Jimmy Dale one grandson, Jim Eli a greatgrandson, Andrew Eli three sisters and two brothers. At her request there will be no formal service. Those who wish may gather at the graveside in Restlawn Memorial Park Cemetery at 10 a.m. Monday. PenwellGabel FordWulfBruns Chapel is in charge of arrangements. Friends may sign the register Sunday, May 9 from 1:00 p.m. to 5:00 p.m. Memorials are suggested to the Coffeyville Regional Medical Center Foundation or the charity of the donors choice.
