DaleGene Barlow, 73, of Dewey, Oklahoma, died Tuesday evening, January 13, 2009 at his home. Gene was born August 29, 1935 at Coffeyville, Kansas to William Barlow and Sylvia Hurst Barlow. He grew up in Coffeyville, graduating from Field Kindley High School in 1954. Gene attended Coffeyville Community College and played football for the Red Ravens. On January 29, 1955, Gene married Melba Casey at Oswego, Kansas. He was a member of the US Air Force from 1958 1963 and was a Turret Systems Mechanic. Upon completion of his military service, Gene returned to Coffeyville and began a career with Farmland Refinery that lasted 36-12 years. He retired from the position of Yard Foreman in March of 1995. After retirement, the Barlows moved to Texarkana, Arkansas for seven years and then on to Dewey, where the made their home for over six years. Gene was very active with the youth of Coffeyville, coaching baseball, softball, basketball and football. It was not unusual to find Gene behind the plate or as field umpire at many, many games. The Barlows ran the Pony-Colt League in Coffeyville for several years. He enjoyed hunting of all kinds and fishing. Gene was a member of the Pipefitters Union and was of the Baptist faith. Survivors include his wife, Melba of the home; three sons, Mark Barlow amp; his wife, Lori of Ballwin, Missouri, Bret Barlow and his fiance, Merriken Bryant of Roswell, New Mexico and Brian Barlow and his wife, Kathi of rural Caney, Kansas; one daughter, Brenda Barlow of El Paso, Texas; two brothers, Glenn Barlow of Coffeyville and Bill Weintz of Bartlesville, Oklahoma; and seven grandchildren, Bill, Scott, Matt, Brandon, Michael, Bethany and Bailey Barlow. Gene was preceded in death by his parents; by two brothers, Ronnie and Billy Barlow and by a sister, Betty Cowdin. Funeral services will be held Saturday, January 17, 2009 at 10 a.m. in the Penwell-Gabel Ford-Wulf-Bruns Chapel. Interment will follow in Robbins Cemetery. Friends may call at the funeral home, Friday, 9am-8pm. The family will receive friends from 6-8 pm on Friday. Those who wish may donate to the Gene Barlow Memorial co Caney Valley High School, 601 E.
