Dale was born on November 28, 1920, in Independence, Kansas. After graduating from Field Kindley Memorial High School in Coffeyville, Kansas in 1940, Dale joined the Army at Camp Robinson, Arkansas. He was honorably discharged in June 1942 after suffering a serious shoulder and neck injury while training in the 1941 Tennessee Maneuvers. After discharge Dale married and in 1953 moved his family to Lawrence, Kansas working for Farmland Cooperative until he retired in 1979.
Dale had a passion for life and at 101 years old had more energy than people half his age. His joy and zest for life was evident by all who knew him. At 99 years old, he traveled to Washington DC as an Honor Flight guest and referred to it as "a trip of a lifetime". He was a member of many clubs and organizations and was also a 32 Degree Scottish Rite Mason.
Dale is proceeded in death by his parents, Jesse and Evelyn, two sisters, Garnett Thomas and Doris Bluejacket and one brother, Glenn Barnard. He is survived by three daughters, Ronda McAfoos (Fred), Teresa Miner (Stan) and Renee Jennings. He has three grandchildren and two great grandchildren.
Honoring Dale's wishes, a private family Memorial Service will be held on May 7, 2022, at Ford-Wulf-Bruns Chapel with Pastor Mark Wilson officiating. Dale will be laid to rest in Restlawn Cemetery in the Garden of Veterans, Coffeyville, Kansas. Following the service, a Celebration of Life will be held at Cedar Bluff Camp, 4707 County Road 2475 at 1:00pm where we can share the many remarkable stories and impressions, he left on us and the world. Dale was deeply loved and a good friend to many. His outgoing personality and infectious smile will be greatly missed.
