Dava Jo Brown, 45, Independence, Kansas died Thursday evening, August 27, 2009 at Jane Phillips Medical Center, Bartlesville, Oklahoma. Dava Jo was born September 16, 1963 at Sacramento, California to Davie John Ellis and Maryetta Scott Ellis. She spent most of her life in the CoffeyvilleIndependence area and was a 1981 graduate of Coffeyvilles Field Kindley High School. Dava Jo married Jewel Turner, in 1985 at Independence, Kansas, he preceded her in death and she then married Kenneth Brown, Sr. in 1996 at Miami, Oklahoma, the couple would later
orce. She was a buyerplanner for Standard Motor Products in Independence for 26 years, retiring only after her health failed. Dava Jo enjoyed taking care of her lawn and gardening and she was an avid fisher. She loved spending time with her family and friends and was a member of Pleas Temple Church of God In Christ at Independence. Dava Jo was also a loyal and constant caregiver to her mother. She is survived by her companion Joe Clark of Independence; her mother, Maryetta Ellis of Fredonia, Kansas; one son, Kenneth Brown, Jr. of Independence, Kansas; two sisters, Porcia Scott of Wichita, Kansas and Sophia Gaston of Lawrence, Kansas; two brothers, Maverick Scott of Wichita and Dion Gaston of Lawrence; two nieces, Brook and Tomiko Scott and three great-nephews, Travis Scott and Rahim and Rasheed White. Preceding her in death is her father, Davie John Ellis. Funeral services will be 11:00 a.m., Wednesday, September 2, 2009 at Penwell-Gabel Ford-Wulf-Bruns Chapel of Coffeyville. Interment will be in Coffeyvilles Fairview Cemetery. Friends may call at the funeral home from 9:00 am 8:00 pm, Tuesday with the family receiving friends from 6-8 pm. Donations may be made to the Dava Jo Brown Memorial Fund co Commerce Bank, 125 N. Penn Ave., Independence, KS and may be left at Penwell-Gabel Funeral Home.
