Delmer L. Reeves, 91, World War II Veteran of South Coffeyville, Oklahoma passed away Thursday, December 29, 2011 at CRMC. Delmer was born on June 30, 1920 in Gray Horse, Oklahoma to William and Lela Reeves. Delmer served in the U.S. Army during World War II. He was part of a Tank Battalion, performing maintenance on small equipment. Delmer also served as a cook for the military, serving 150 men. On September 24, 1946 he was united in marriage to the love of his life, Opal May Sanders in Coffeyville, Kansas. The couple made their home in rural South Coffeyville, Oklahoma for 65 years. Delmer retired in 1982 after working for Continental Can, Boeing, Dixon, Robinson Furniture and Heymanns. He enjoyed fishing, auto racing, playing dominos and cards. Most of all he enjoyed his time with his family and watching the grandkids play sports. Surviving to honor his memory is his wife, Opal of the home sons, Charles Mansfield and wife, Doris, Frank Mansfield and wife, Mary all of rural South, Coffeyville, OK, Wesley Reeves and wife, Gaylee, Jerry Reeves and wife, LeeAnn all of Wann, OK daughters, Sandy Pitman and husband, Floyd of rural South Coffeyville, OK, Linda Tucker and husband, Rick of Independence, KS sixteen grandchildren thirtyeight greatgrandchildren and eight greatgreatgrandchildren. He was preceded in death by his parents, William and Lela brothers, Marvin and Wesley Reeves granddaughter, Angela Kastler and a greatgranddaughter, JayCea Thornbrugh. Funeral services will be held on Wednesday, January 4, 2012 at 10:00 a.m. at PenwellGabel FordWulfBruns Chapel in Coffeyville, KS. Evangelist David Bycroft will officiate. Burial will follow at Restlawn Memorial Park Cemetery in Coffeyville. Friends may call on Tuesday, January 3, 2012 from 10:00 a.m. until 8:00 p.m. at PenwellGabel FordWulf Bruns Chapel to sign the guest register. Family will greet friends Tuesday evening from 6:00 p.m. until 7:00 p.m. at the funeral home.
