Delphia Conn

Delphia Leona Conn age 99 of Liberty passed away on January 28,2018 at Windsor Place.

Delphia was born in Saddle, Arkansas on September 13, 1918 to Joe and Ruby (Ferguson) Davis. She attended school in Hardy, Arkansas completing the 8th grade before being forced to quit school and help with the family farm. Delphia was determined to finish school and did so through correspondence courses, an accomplishment she was very proud of. Along with working on the farm, mostly in the cotton fields, Delphia also took a job alongside her mother with the Civilian Conservation Corps (CCC) which is where she met her husband, Jim Conn. The couple married in 1935 and remained so until Jim's death. They completed their family with their only child, Norma Jean, in 1939. The family made their home on a farm outside of Liberty.

Delphia was a devoted wife, mother and grandmother. She loved caring for her chickens, goats, cattle, vegetable and flower gardens, all of which she took great pride in. During the early years, Jim would always have the teenage kids out to the farm to rodeo or just ride horses. Delphia would end up cooking for all of them as well as caring for any bumps and bruises they came down with. She didn't mind and as a result, ended up with many lifelong younger friends. Their farm was the go to place of its time.

After raising her daughter, Delphia went back into the workforce beginning at a sewing factory in Cherryvale, Kansas where she worked several years until its closing, at which time she went to work at ACC in Independence, Kansas. She worked there until she felt the need to stay home and care for her husband whose health was failing. After his passing in 1988, Delphia began to allow herself to enjoy life a little more as she met a new companion, Alfred Corle. The two could be seen anywhere and everywhere there was a senior dance. They would remain best friends and when they weren't dancing, they were either fishing, gardening or caring for their goats until Alfred's passing in 2001.

Delphia will be remembered for her feisty, tell it like it was attitude as well as her kind and gentle side that was often reserved for her close friends and family. As a mother and grandmother, there was none better. She loved cooking and baking for her family, making all their favorite dishes to perfection. She was always there with just the right medicine for all cuts, bruises, sunburns and stings that kids seem to come up with. She was always ready to take the grandkids to their favorite fishing hole there on the farm or to her secret blackberry patch, where they would try to get more blackberries than chiggers but seldom did. She always had just the right cage for the lizards, turtles, rabbits, frogs and tadpoles that came along with visiting Grandma and Grandpa. She even loved to hunt squirrels where she would carry her favorite 22 rifle and became quite the marksman.

Those left to cherish her memory are her daughter, Norma Ashley of Coffeyville. Two grandchildren, Teresa Collins and husband Bill of Chelsea, Ok and Don Wooldridge and wife Beth of Stillwater, OK. Seven great-grandchildren, Cory, Kevin, Kelli and Colbi Wooldridge, Cody Allen, Jacob and Wyatt Collins and four great-great grandchildren, McKinzey and Jace Wooldridge and Katie and Abby Allen.

She now rests with her parents, husband and brothers Mart, Truman, Trez and Mack Davis.
