Dolores H. Dowell Long, Powell July 14, 1917 - Jan. 3, 2006 Dolores H. Dowell Long, Powell, age 88 of Caney, Kansas formerly of Altamont died January 3, 2006 at Windsor Place, Coffeyville, Kansas. She has resided at Windsor Place in Coffeyville since March 2005. Dolores was born July 14, 1917 between Wayside and Havana, Kansas. Her parents were Ernest G. Dowell and Mary A. Cummin Dowell. She attended grade school in Deer Creek, Havana, Wayside and Elk City. Mrs. Powell was a graduate of Independence High School, Independence, Kansas. She attended Independence Junior College one year and also attended one year at Baker University in Topeka, Kansas. Dolores spent the first 18 years of her life in Montgomery County before moving to and living in Topeka, Kansas, Denver, Colorado and then Steamboat Springs, Colorado where she met and married Thomas H. Long, Sr., they left Colorado and for a brief time they lived in Hanna, Wyoming before moving to Altamont, Kansas in 1953. They later
orced. On July 14, 1986 Dolores and Russell A. Powell, a widower and long-time friend were married in Holton, Kansas. They lived in Caney, Kansas before moving to Windsor Place. Mr. Powell preceded her in death August 17, 2005. Dolores acquired a Real Estate Agent License and worked several years for Francisco Realty of Parsons. She was a Co-Owner of a grocery store and construction company in Altamont. She was a member of the Caney United Methodist Church, Sigourneyan Club, Garden Club and Two Bridge Clubs. She was a long-time member of Easter Star and a former member of the Altamont Culture Club. Dolores was very devoted to her family and enjoyed sewing, cooking, gardening, playing cards, hunting, fishing, bowling, traveling and spending time with family and friends. She will be remembered with much love and missed by those whose lives she touched. Mrs. Powell is survived by a son, Thomas H. Long, Jr. and wife Deloris Pokey of Altamont. One daughter, Patricia A. Broadway and husband Robert Ted of Grove, Oklahoma; One step-son C.W. Powell and wife Shelley of Springfield, Missouri. Four grandchildren, Robert Teddy Broadway and wife Shannon, Karen Miley of Altamont, Kansas, Kristine Tucker and husband Ty of Parsons, Kansas, Debbie Gegg and husband Scott of Altamont. Two step-grandsons, Brett and Ryan Powell of Springfield, Missouri. Seven great-grandchildren, Renee Cosby, Emporia, Kansas; Samantha amp; Jordan Cosby, Aleya, Alahna amp; Alivia Broadway; and Tristan Gegg all of Altamount, Kansas. One half sister, Alice Dowell Hoskins, Seattle, Washington; Two step-brothers, several nephews, nieces and cousins. She was preceded in death by her parents, a half brother, a half sister, two step-brothers and one step-sister. Cremation has taken place and a Memorial Service will be held, Saturday, 2:00 P.M., January 14, 2006 at the Havana Cemetery, Havana, Kansas. Rev. C. Kent Rogers will be presiding. Family and friends will gather at the graveside prior to services. Memorial contributions may be given to the Caney United Methodist Church co Penwell-Gabel. There is no visitation or calling hours.
