Donald Wayne Stewart age 82, of Fredonia, passed away on September 25, 2017 at Seville Care Center in Wichita.
Don was born on July 22, 1935 in Fredonia to Harold and Alma (Melon) Stewart. Don attended school at Fredonia. After school, he enlisted in the United States Marine Corps where he proudly served during the Korean War. Don received an honorable discharge in 1957 and returned home to Fredonia. Don was first married to Geneva Robison, and they were blessed with a son and daughter; the couple later divorced. Don was next married to Mildred Hartley, and he was blessed with four more children. They also later divorced. Finally, Don was reunited with the love of his life, Elizabeth Irene Reynolds, whom he first met years earlier when Elizabeth worked at the Bus Station in Coffeyville. They were united in marriage on January 28, 1985, and through this union Don added two step-daughters to his family. Don worked in the maintenance department and later as a security guard for Coffeyville Regional Medical Center. He was also employed by various convenience stores in the Coffeyville and Fredonia communities. Most recently Don enjoyed his work at G&W Foods, a grocery store in Fredonia, where he stayed busy fulfilling his various duties there; his favorite of course was visiting with the customers. When he was not at work Don spent his time caring for his wife, Elizabeth, before she passed, visiting with friends on Facebook, tinkering with electronic gadgets, and taking their dog Blackie for rides on the back of his scooter. Don was hard-working, strong and independent, but will be remembered most as a loving and supportive husband, father, and Papa whom you could always count on to be there when you needed him. For everyone who was blessed to know him, the world is now a lonelier place; bold laughter has been replaced with silence.
Don's memories will live on through his children: Kenneth Henson (Sandy) of Bloomsdale, Missouri; Kathy Seggerman (Tim) of Secor. Illinois; David Stewart (Tawny) of Nowata, Oklahoma; Michael Stewart (JoAnne) of Machesney Park, Illinois; Carla VanCleave (J.R.) of Wichita; and Brenda Jaimez (David) of Coffeyville; his sister, Linda Cordell (Albert) of Odessa, Missouri; 9 grandchildren, and 9 great-grandchildren.
Don now rests with his parents, his wife Elizabeth; sisters: Patsy McKinney, Ann Jackson, Carol Wade, and Shirley Esser; a son, Jon Stewart; infant daughter, and 5 grandchildren.
Memorial services will be held in Coffeyville on Saturday, October 7, 2017 at 10:00 am at Ford-Wulf-Bruns Chapel with Pastor Joe Brooks officiating.
