Donald Sumner

Donald Keith Sumner, age 89, of Coffeyville, Kansas passed away Tuesday, May 21, 2013 at the Coffeyville Regional Medical Center in Coffeyville, Kansas.

Graveside Celebration of Life Services will be held at 10:00 a.m., Friday, May 24, 2013 at the Restlawn Memorial Park Cemetery with the Chaplain Mike Graham of Harry Hynes Memorial Hospice officiating under the direction of the FordWulfBruns Chapel in Coffeyville, Kansas.

Visitation hours will be held from 9:00 a.m. to 10:00 a.m. Friday, May 24, 2013 with the family receiving friends at the FordWulfBruns Chapel.

Donald Keith Sumner was born April 21, 1924 in Washington County, Oklahoma to Alvin Jesse Mabel Cora Ellis Sumner. Keith attended Tyro, Kansas Schools graduating in 1941. In January of 1943 Keith entered the United States Navy and served in the Pacific Area until his honorable discharge in December of 1945.

Keith married Mildred Mason in 1942 and two sons were born to this union, Donald and Darrel. The couple later divorced in 1954.

Keith worked at the National Refinery from August of 1942 until his retirement in April of 1986. Keith enjoyed bowling on Friday night mixed league and boating on Grand Lake.

In 1955 Keith married Jo Ann Hensley Nye, she had a son Steven and daughter Shelley Ann. Jo Ann passed away December of 2008 ending 53 years of marriage.

Survivors include sons Donald Keith Sumner Jr. and wife Peggy, Darrell D. Sumner and wife Patty, and Stephen Nye one daughter Shelly and husband Dennis Mosler 10 grandchildren, 26 great grandchildren and one great great grandchild.
