Doris Billups

Doris Mae Billups, 85, Coffeyville, passed away late Wednesday, October 26, at the Coffeyville Regional Medical Center. She was born March 5, 1920, in Oconomowoc, Wisconsin to Oscar and Alma Ventense Blumenstein. She began her education in Wisconsin but moved with her parents to Coffeyville where she completed her schooling. On March 5, 1940, she married Harold Kenneth Billups in Independence, Kansas. He preceded her in death January 7, 1986. Following their marriage, the couple made their home in rural Coffevyille where Mr. Billups farmed, worked at Continental Can and Cessna Aircraft in Wichita. Mrs. Billups has worked in several Coffeyville restaurants including Truckers Cafe, New Castle, School Lunch Programs and twenty years with Ritas Cafe. Doris was a member of St. Pauls Lutheran Church of Coffeyville and the Priscilla Guild of the Church. She was also a member of the Alter Guild and the Mary Martha Circle at the church. She is survived by: One Brother: Leo Blumenstein Decatur, Illinois Numerous Nieces and Nephews. She was preceded in death by her parents, three brothers and two sisters. A funeral service will be 2:00 p.m. Monday, October 31, at the St. Pauls Lutheran Church in Coffeyville. Burial will follow the service at the Jefferson Cemetery. Mrs. Billups will lie in state Sunday from 1-8:00 p.m. at the Penwell-Gabel Ford-Wulf-Bruns Funeral Home.
