Dorothy Gene Lester Dew, 86, of Ponca City, Oklahoma passed peacefully at Shawn Manor Nursing Home in Ponca City. She was born October 8, 1923 at Muskogee, Oklahoma to William K. Lester and Carrie E. LaBrue Lester. Dorothy grew up and attended schools in Coffeyville, Kansas and met her future husband William I. Dew when he was stationed at the Army Air Base in Coffeyville. They were married on May 8, 1944 before William was deployed overseas. Dorothy worked as a riveter in aircraft factories in Tulsa and Ft. Worth, Texas during the war. She liked the outdoors, playing softball and fishing and was a leader for the Girl Scouts for many years. She also enjoyed history and reading, keeping many books, newspapers and magazine at hand. Dorothy had a dry sense of humor that endeared her to many. She worked for some time at the Electra Corporation in Independence, Kansas and following the death of her husband became a letter carrier for the Coffeyville Post Office. She then went into business for herself, operating Coffeyville Delivery Service for over 20 years. She was a member of First Baptist Church of Coffeyville. Survivors include her daughters: Denise Jones and husband Stan, Margaret Dew and Partner Larry Chase, sister Viginia Maritt and husband James, grandchildren Michelle West and husband Chris, Aaron Jones and wife Katie, Leslie Conner and husband Austin, greatgrandchildren Allison Kiser, Cody Kiser, Alexis West and many nieces, nephews and cousins. She was preceded in death by husband William Dew, her parents, seven brothers and six sisters. In lieu of flowers, the family requests donations to Hospice of North Central Oklahoma 1904 N. Union, Ste 103, Ponca City, Oklahoma 74601.
