Dorothy Edna Hoggatt, 94, of Coffeyville, passed away Tuesday, April 29, 2008 at Windsor Place in Coffeyville. Dorothy was born on September 1, 1913 in Cushing, OK; the daughter of Henry and Bessie Schwartout Oursler. She graduated in May of 1932 from Field Kindley Memorial High School in Coffeyville and studied music education at Oklahoma State University in Stillwater, OK. She attended McFarland Trade School and completed sheet metal assembly in 1941 and blueprint reading in 1943. In 1963, Dorothy completed post graduate Business Administration at Labette County Community High School in Altamont, KS. On Dec. 23, 1934, Dorothy married Elmer Wettack Hoggatt at her parents home in rural Coffeyville. They farmed and moved to Coffeyville in 1963. He preceded her in death on July 30, 1997. Dorothy worked at Continental Can and retired as Records Dept. Supervisor from the Coffeyville Police Department after 18 years of service. She was a charter member of Westside Christian Church. She was also the past President of the Farm Bureau Club, a member of the Clymore Clipper Club, the Chief Black Dog Camper39;s Club, the Rainbow Chorus Club, and the past President of the Matinee Musicale. Surviving to honor her memory are her daughters, Elizabeth A. Padley and husband, Ralph of rural Coffeyville and Dorothy Elaine Plummer and husband, Thomas C. of Scottsdale, AZ ; seven grandchildren, and four great-grandchildren. Funeral services will be held at 2:00 p.m. Friday, May 2, 2008 at Westside Christian Church in Coffeyville. Interment will follow in Penwell-Gabels Restlawn Memorial Park Cemetery. Friends may call today from 3:00 p.m. until 9:00 p.m. at Penwell-Gabel Ford-Wulf-Bruns Chapel where the family will greet friends from 7:00 p.m. until 9:00 p.m. this evening. Memorials can be made to Ozark Christian College Music Scholarship in care of the funeral home.
