Dorothy Pitts

Dorothy W. Erne Pitts, 91, West Sacramento, California and formerly of Coffeyville, Kansas, passed away, Monday, June 21, 2010 at the River Bend Nursing Center in West Sacramento. Dorothy was born August 18, 1918 at Coffeyville, Kansas to William H. Erne and Mary Babb Erne. She grew up in Coffeyville where she worked on her parents dairy farm and attended the James School. She worked as an inspector for Pepsi Cola Bottling Company for 10 years and then several years for ACC in Independence, Kansas. Dorothy moved to California in the early 1970s and there she met and later married Leroy Pitts in 1972. Mr. Pitts preceded his wife in death in the early 1980s. Dorothy was raised in the Southern Baptist Church and was currently attending New Discovery Christian Church. She had taught Sunday School for 50 years or more and loved to play piano. Dorothy made several trip with the Senior Citizens group and made an annual trek back to Coffeyville, with her latest visit in October 2009. Survivors include several nieces and nephews, including Dixie Erne and Allen Erne of Coffeyville. She was preceded in death by her husband by her parents and by two brothers, Carlos amp Orville Erne and by two sisters, LaVelma Wolf and Margaret Conway. Funeral services were held in West Sacramento, Thursday, June 24, 2010 at 10:00 a.m. in the River Cities Funeral Chapel. Graveside services will be held Saturday, June 26, 2010 at 2:00 p.m. in Coffeyvilles Restlawn Memorial Park Cemetery with Rev. Gerald Morris officiating.
