Dovea N. Davis, 86, of Rural Independence, passed away Wednesday, January 23, 2008. Dovea was born on December 17, 1921 in Beaver County, OK, the daughter of Manford and Jenny Morrison Paasch. She grew up and graduated from high school in Burden, KS and attended college in Chanute, Wichita, and Pittsburgh, KS. After college, Dovea taught in Torrence, CA, Tyro, Robbins, Valeda, West Coffeyville and retired from Dearing Schools after many years of dedication. Dovea was a member of the First United Methodist Church of Coffeyville, the Matinee Musical Singing String Orchestra, a 50 year Charter Sorority Member of Alpha Delta Kappa, and a was a member of a country band for whom she enjoyed playing the violin and keyboard. On April 20, 1941, she married James C. Davis in Chanute, KS. Following their marriage they lived in Dearing until 1972 at which time they moved to her current residence, rural Independence. Dovea is survived by her son, Jimmy and wife, Betty Davis, six grandchildren, eight great-grandchildren, four great-great-grandchildren, and her sister, Virginia Wilson. She was preceded in death by her husband, Jim and her daughter, Carol VanBuren. Funeral services will be held at 2:00 p.m., Monday, January 28, 2008 at Penwell-Gabel Ford-Wulf-Bruns Chapel in Coffeyville. Interment will follow at Jefferson Cemetery, Jefferson, KS. A family visitation will be held Sunday from 3:00 to 4:00 p.m. and friends may call until 9:00 p.m. In lieu of flowers, the family request donations be given to the First United Methodist Church of Coffeyville in care of the funeral home.
